The Appointment
With the news that is continually on our TVs, radios, and in our newsfeed on our social media, just the mention of the word “Iran” may cause various degrees of angst, worry, fear, or anger upon hearing it. Of course, it depends on your particular worldview. Even within the Christian community, we are not unified in our responses. But we should be! I am not speaking of a political response, but one which is based on our faith in Jesus Christ.
Listen to God’s Word: “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him.Yet, he is actually not far from each one of us” (Acts 17:26-27, ESV)
God states clearly that He has a purpose for nations and their boundaries. We think (as we always do) that we create nations, that we create our destiny, and that we are the masters of said destiny. Trouble is, we get ourselves into all kinds of problems and predicaments, without a clue on how to solve them and THEN WE BLAME GOD! “Why would a ‘loving’ god do this to us?” “How could HE let this happen?” The accusations fly, but no help is sought!
Here is where God’s Reverse Appointment was set up. He set up nations and their “allotted periods and boundaries.” He did not do this to seek our advice, but so that humankind could seek Him and find Him. He set aside times and boundaries for each nation on earth to seek Him. What those nations do during their appointment is up to them!
With geopolitical incidents at a fever pitch, it is imperative for all Christians, regardless of political viewpoint, to PRAY. Pray that God’s will would be accomplished. Pray for the protection of our military. Pray for wisdom for the leadership of the nations involved. Especially pray that our Brothers and Sisters in Christ in regions where war is rampant and their lives are in peril, would be kept safe but would also be given divine boldness and filled with the light of Jesus. The opportunity for the Gospel of Jesus to be preached is ripe. We need to pray to the Lord of the Harvest that His workers rise up in this hour!
As global events continue to unfold, do not feel weighed down with worry about world events. Take heed to what Proverbs 3:25-26 states, “Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”
Our confidence is not in the strength of a military or the wisdom of a nation’s leaders. Our confidence is found in Christ alone!
